RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a Principal Character Concept Artist to join our team. In this position you will create realistic illustrations, sketches, and designs of characters, creatures, environments, weapons and objects. As well as manage, give feedback and mentor other Concept Artists to achieve their production goals in a brand-new unannounced project. A successful candidate will contribute and manage a team of artists to define the visuals for our upcoming game. The candidate will work together with Art Director, screenwriter, 3D artists, and game designers to achieve desired quality that meets all technical, scenario, and stylistic conditions. 

  • Manage concept art team.  

  • Engage and mentor concept artists to ensure team cohesion and help developing both short and long-term career goals.  

  • Lead by example in the hands-on production of AAA quality artwork, inspiring others on the team to follow.  

  • Participate in the overall planning and scope of the concept needed for the projects. Communicating with other teams, understanding needs, and proposing solutions.  

  • Partner with other departments to ensure the concept designs are delivered in a timely manner. 

  • Help advancing and improving our concept art quality through reviews of work with a critical, artistic eye.  

  • Based on visual direction from the Art Director, collaborate on the visual style and ensure our designs are at a state-of-the-art quality bar. 

  • Be the bridge between the concept art team and other art teams to ensure the smooth transition of concept to assets. 

  • Create a unique and consistent style for a complete game universe. 

  • Create characters, enemies, vehicles, weapons and environments based on direction from the Art Director and inputs from the game design team. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of professional experience working in the concept art field. 

  • Worked on and shipped at least 1x AAA game title from start to finish. 

  • Strong focus on design and problem-solving. 

  • Deep understanding of human and creature anatomy. 

  • Ability to create high quality realistic concepts for environments, weapons and props. 

  • Ability to create concepts based on written or verbal notes from the art director. 

  • Strong sense of design and composition and a good eye for detail, materials and scale. 

  • Mastery of industry-standard software applications for creating concept art.  

  • Excellent traditional artistic skills with a strong grasp of art fundamentals.  

  • Good English communication and writing skills. 

  • Experience in utilizing 3D tools as part of your workflow.  

 

Preferences

  • Experience with engines like Unreal. 

  • Experience doing concept art for VFX. 

  • A fundamental understanding of the 3D asset building process. 

  • Continue being a student of your craft and the game spaces you’re working in.
