Develop high-quality hair, fur, and grooming assets for characters
HAIR/GROOM ARTIST
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a skilled Hair Artist to join our team and contribute to the creation of high-quality, fully developed Hair, Fur and Fibers for our games. The role focuses on the groom creation from concept to final in-engine implementation, while also supporting improvements to real-time technology and production pipelines.
You will work closely with Character Art, Animation, Tech Art and Programming teams to ensure characters meet both artistic and technical requirements.
Create high-quality Hair and Fur for character models, monsters, clothing, and accessories.
Create PBR textures following modern real-time pipelines.
Import assets into the game engine and support other teams during integration.
Work with Outsource team supporting external hair production.
Participate in concept and design stages, contributing ideas and visual solutions.
Collaborate with Animation to ensure the assets meet deformation and rigging requirements.
Support the full character production pipeline from early development through release.
Contribute to improvements in tools, workflows, and technology.
Create documentation and workflow guidelines where needed.
REQUIREMENTS
2+ years of AAA game development experience as a Character or Groom Artist.
Strong skills in grooming, sculpting, modeling, and texturing.
Proficiency in hair grooming tools (XGen, Ornatrix, Houdini, or similar), ZBrush, Substance Painter, Maya or 3ds Max.
Ability to communicate with technical teams in the area of Hair technology.
Strong understanding of PBR workflows and principles.
Ability to polish and bring to assets to final quality.
Good understanding of animation requirements for production.
Good knowledge of game engines, preferably Unreal Engine.
In-depth understanding of the character art production pipeline.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Intermediate English.
Preferences
Experience with version control systems (SVN, Perforce) and bug-tracking tools (Jira or similar).
Experience working with or supporting animation pipelines.
Knowledge of real-time hair creation pipelines and 3D grooming.
Experience creating materials in Substance Designer.
Scripting skills (Maya/Max or external tools).
Strong eye for lighting, color, material definition, and detail.
Experience with modular character systems.
